Running a store in a smaller municipality requires significant financial and personnel resources. Over the past two years, we have been focusing on how to support municipalities in maintaining these essential services. Increasingly, small towns and villages are turning to self-service stores in a fully autonomous or hybrid mode with partial service. Our experience shows that modern technologies are not a hurdle for seniors. Technical solutions accepted by the younger generation can be supplemented by simpler methods (e.g., chip cards) that are more suitable for older residents – for many, the local store is the only shopping option. The possibility of shopping locally is also crucial for the economically active population. And it is not just about accessible stores – self-service-based solutions are gradually expanding into e-government services. Lastly, municipal community centers should also be mentioned, which can be available 24/7 with authorized access and offer cultural, social, or sports activities with minimal staffing.
